Get people to follow you on social media

A quick tip

One of the best ways to start developing a consistent tone in your copy is to think of others with defined personalities.

If your Brand Voice was a famous person, who would it be?

Reese Witherspoon? Joan Jett? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Brené Brown?

Write down the reasons you chose that person. Use descriptive adjectives.

Why do you follow social media accounts? Chances are it's because you're either curious to know more or entertained.

The biggest mistake I see my clients make in their own posts is forgetting the reason why people follow in the first place.

They default to advertising-style copywriting. Headlines designed to inform. "Hooks" to grab attention.

I'm guilty of this, too!

Before anyone buys from you, they need to connect with you. Know, like, trust — always in that order. Connection posts are what tell people they're in the right place. That you're for them.

Here's one of mine. I boosted it to get outside my usual circle, and it's brought me a steady stream of new followers ever since.

Do I only market to moms? Absolutely not. But they're usually solopreneurs, which is the group I'm talking to.

The patriarchy reflects my Brand Values and brings in some of my personality. If people don't like it, that's cool. I'm not for them.

But if they do, now we connect.

It's your turn! What are you doing on social to connect right now? What's working, whatt's flopped?
